A Message from your Chairman

My fellow Republicans,

The County General Election of 2008 along with the primary election for State Senate and the State House are now over. To say I am pleased with this election is probably the understatement of the year.
First, the election for Circuit Judge. As I said several months ago, this was a very important election. And to say the voters have spoken is also an understatement. They yelled in the loudest of voices and that voice was for David Duggan. Judge Duggan and his supporters, along with the Blount County Republican Party, worked very hard in this election. The night before the election, Judge Duggan and his supporters had touched over 6,000 voters through door to door and thousands and thousands of voters by mail and by television. His win, and definitely his margin of victory, are a testament to his character and a testament to his work ethic. In addition, I want to thank each and every one of you who stood and elected the RIGHT man for the job. Thank you is not enough but I hope you know it is heartfelt.
Although there were no opponents for our Property Assessor, Mike Morton, I know he is happy to have the election behind him. Congratulations to Mike on another four-year term.
Three non-partisan elections were also held for county office for the Blount County School Board. Congratulations to John Davis and Chris Cantrell. Both were unopposed in their re-election bids. And congratulations to Brad Long on his win for District 6 School Board member.
Now to the state and federal races. First, congratulations to Joe McCord. Joe was unopposed in his bid for re-election and we are proud he will again represent us in the 8th District. Also, congratulations to Bob Ramsey in his successful bid to represent us in the 20th District. Bob faces no further opposition in the November general election and thus will be representing us in Nashville starting next year. Congratulations to Doug Overbey on his successful campaign for the Republican nomination for the 8th Senatorial District. Doug will face opposition in the general election so I ask each of you to help me in electing Doug our next 8th District Senator. And finally, our two federal races. First, our Congressman, John J. Duncan, Jr. will face opposition in the November election and I again ask each of you to stand with me to ensure our Congressman is re-elected. And our Senator, Lamar Alexander, will also face opposition in the November election. And last, but certainly not least, it is time for us to stand together for our Country. We have a clear choice for President. That choice is between our nominee, John McCain, and the choice of the Democratic Party, Barack Obama. The choice is easy. Stand with me as we elect the right choice and put our Country First. John McCain and Sarah Palin are the right choice to lead our country.
