A Message from your Chairman
Ladies and Gentlemen! Happy New Year! My hopes for each of you are a prosperous and joyous 2008. We have A LOT going on in the Blount County Republican Party this year and I am very excited about the possibilities.
As each of you know, we have a VERY important race for Circuit Judge upcoming. David Duggan, a life-long Republican, a fair and decent man, is running to be elected to fill the seat left open by Judge Kelly Thomas. David is not facing any opposition in the Republican Primary therefore all efforts are being focused on the August General Election. I can’t emphasize how important this race is to Blount County. Our decision is easy. Judge David Duggan has been training for this judgeship his entire career. His courtroom work, his legal career, all has prepared him to be a terrific judge. In addition, he will not legislate from the bench. To many times these days, we see our friends on the left side of the political spectrum and their appointees legislating from the bench. That is not what our country was founded on. Our principles are clear and the division of authority is not up for debate. David Duggan knows his role and the role of a judge and will carry our values into that role. Our job is to ensure he gets elected. I ask each of you to first vote, second get your family to vote, and third get your friends and neighbors to vote. And ask them to vote for David Duggan. Our future depends on it.
In addition to the Judge’s race, another local race that has no opposition in the Primary or General Election is that of Property Assessor. Congratulations to Mike Morton whom will be elected to another term as Property Assessor. I am proud of Mike and the job he does and am glad he will receive another term to continue his good work.
On the State and National level, we have enormous opportunities. Of course, on February 5, we will vote in the Presidential Primary. That day, Super Tuesday, will by most counts decide who our candidate will be for President. Whomever succeeds through the Primary process, it is imperative that we as Republicans come together to support him. Truly the future of our country lies in our hands. We can elect someone who has our values, who believes that people are the strength of our country, who believes that we, yes we, are the ones who have the ability to forge our future. If not, we will have a President who believes that the strength of our country is our government, that we, the people, cannot make our own decisions and we need the government to help us. I, for one, am appalled that anyone could believe that. But they do. Unbelievable! Join me in making sure our values are carried to Washington. In addition, at the federal level we will also re-elect our Senator, Lamar Alexander. Help me in sending Lamar back to Washington. We are proud of our native son and his recent rise in the Republican Leadership in the United States Senate. Also, Congressman Jimmy Duncan will be on the ballot. Congressman Duncan continues to be our voice in Washington and he needs us to send him back to do our work. Again, help me send Congressman Duncan back to Washington. As I said earlier, we have quite an opportunity this year.
At the State level, we will elect our representatives and senator this fall. There will be more to come on those races as we get closer to that time.
